The award-winning all-in-one power supply from GUDE – Expert Power Control 8291

The Expert Power Control 8291 is an intelligent AC/DC power distribution unit (PDU) designed for today's power-intensive IT and AV installations, including lecture halls, conference rooms, data centres and industrial environments. Companies such as Airbus, Siemens, Stanford and Oxford University rely on this reliable power solution from GUDE Systems.

MORE SAFETY AND CONTROL FOR AC/DC APPLICATIONS

The PDU, which has already won several international awards this year, delivers high power density in a compact design. EPC 8291 supports up to 21 consumers via active switched and measured connections – 17 with DC and 4 with AC voltage.

Features of the device

  • Switchable load outputs for 5V, 12V, 24V and 230V.
  • Compact design for one rack unit.
  • Precise current measurement of up to 9 electrical units.
  • Event- and schedule-controlled switching.
  • Free plug-and-play drivers for popular media platforms, including Crestron, Q-SYS, Biamp, Extron, Savant, AMX, Control4 and others.
  • Easy configuration via web browser, Windows or Linux.
  • Firmware updates via Ethernet that can be installed at any time without restarting or downtime.

The advantages of the device

  • The collective shutdown of connected end devices ensures more sustainable operation of the infrastructure: programmed schedules can be used to switch off power-hungry consumers or unused IT systems at night or on weekends. This effectively reduces power consumption and the associated CO2 emissions.
  • Programmed threshold alarms and sensor-based environmental monitoring enable more proactive maintenance and more fail-safe operation of systems.
  • Thanks to remote reboots, problems with frozen systems can be resolved remotely – without the need for costly on-site service calls. Infrastructure maintenance can thus be carried out quickly and in a resource-efficient manner.
  • The powered AC/DC outputs eliminate the need for bulky and failure-prone adapters, freeing up space in the rack and simplifying cable management.
  • The device also supports two plug-and-play environmental sensors for temperature, humidity and air pressure. The device's LED display shows the power, IP address, port status, sensor data and error messages for on-site users at a glance.

Device safety

  • Integrated 300 W industrial power supply with an MTBF of 1.8 million hours.
  • Protection at socket level thanks to integrated eFuses.
  • Type 3 surge protection.
  • Type A residual current measurement (RCM).
  • High inrush relays for high inrush currents prevent the contacts from welding together.
  • Robust IP access control and password protection.
  • Encrypted communication via SSL and SSH.
  • Support for the 802.1X standard for port authentication in the network.
  • Zero Voltage Switching (ZVS) avoids high switching currents by switching at the zero crossing of the AC voltage.

Device service and management

To reduce service issues and enable rapid remote management, technicians can remotely view advanced analytics via the IP interface, enabling real-time monitoring and early detection of underperforming or failed components. Each socket also has an individual switching function via HTTP/S, Telnet, SSH, SNMP, command line or serial interface for quick troubleshooting.

For added reliability, all 21 sockets can be assigned “self-healing” ICMP/TCP watchdogs. These watchdogs continuously scan for unresponsive devices and automatically restart the affected socket when detected. This feature can resolve up to 90% of service issues without the need for technician intervention or system downtime.
