Invisible surveillance with 4K performance: The new S-ONE from MOBOTIX
With the MOBOTIX S-ONE Dual, our partner MOBOTIX is introducing a modular camera system that is positioned as the successor to the MOBOTIX S15 and MOBOTIX S16 series. The camera has been developed for installation scenarios where video technology needs to be integrated as discreetly as possible, such as in storage areas, vehicles (buses, trains) or hard-to-reach areas. To this end, the system combines a modular architecture with integrated video analytics and support for two high-resolution sensor modules. We address key questions surrounding the new product from MOBOTIX.

WHAT MAKES THE CAMERA’S MODULAR ARCHITECTURE STAND OUT?
The MOBOTIX S-ONE Dual follows the tried-and-tested principle of separating the camera body from the sensor modules. The actual camera core can be installed discreetly in ceilings, walls or technical enclosures, whilst only the sensor modules remain visible.
The system supports the operation of two sensor modules, each with up to 4K UHD resolution. These can be positioned independently of one another, allowing different viewing directions or areas to be monitored using just a single camera system.
As both sensors are operated via a shared camera unit, integration into the network is achieved via a single IP address.
WHAT ARE THE COST BENEFITS OF THE DUAL-SENSOR CONCEPT?
By integrating two sensors into a single camera unit, the number of cameras required can be reduced in many installations.
In many video management systems, cameras are licensed per IP address. In such environments, a dual-sensor system can help to reduce the number of licences required compared to two individual cameras.
Furthermore, the camera processes analysis functions directly on the device (edge processing). No additional analysis servers are therefore required for basic video analysis functions.
The manufacturer also provides a five-year manufacturer’s warranty for the system.
DOES THE CAMERA ACTUALLY SAVE ENERGY?
Yes. The MOBOTIX S-ONE Dual is designed to operate within PoE Class 3 as defined by IEEE 802.3af.
According to the manufacturer, typical power consumption is less than 10 watts. This means the system remains within the power limits of this PoE class and can be powered via standardised network cabling.
For installations with many cameras, moderate energy consumption can help to keep the demands on the network infrastructure to a minimum.
WHAT FUNCTIONS DOES THE INTEGRATED VIDEO ANALYSIS OFFER?
The camera features the integrated ActivitySensor ONE analysis function. This evaluates movements in the image and detects relevant events.
Among other things, the software can distinguish between people and vehicles and other movements. The analysis takes place directly on the camera and can be applied to both sensor channels in parallel.
This edge analysis allows events to be detected and recordings to be triggered without the need for additional analysis hardware.
HOW COMPLEX IS IT TO UPGRADE EXISTING SYSTEMS?
The MOBOTIX S-ONE Dual makes the transition particularly efficient: thanks to identical mounting plate cut-outs and the tried-and-tested 43-millimetre diameter of the sensor modules, existing installations can usually be carried over on a one-to-one basis. This saves time and significantly reduces installation costs for system upgrades.
FOR WHICH APPLICATIONS IS THE CAMERA DESIGNED?
Thanks to its design, the camera is particularly suitable for installations where compact dimensions and discreet integration are required. Typical applications include:
- Industrial plants and machine monitoring
- Public transport applications
- Car parks and transport infrastructure
- Security-sensitive areas within buildings
The camera is also designed for a temperature range of –40 °C to +65 °C and meets robust protection requirements such as IK10 vandal resistance.
